Chronic hepatitis D virus infection is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis D virus, which can lead to serious liver damage. This study is focused on evaluating a new treatment called RBD1016, which is given as a subcutaneous injection. The study aims to assess how effective and safe RBD1016 is for people with this condition. Additionally, the study will include a comparison with a placebo, which is a solution used for control purposes.
The study will involve participants receiving RBD1016 injections over a period of time, with regular monitoring to check the levels of the virus in their blood. The goal is to see if RBD1016 can reduce the amount of virus present. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the actual treatment or the placebo, and neither the participants nor the researchers will know who is receiving which, to ensure unbiased results.
Another medication, Vemlidy, which contains the active substance tenofovir alafenamide, may also be used in the study. This medication is taken orally and is already used to treat certain viral infections. The study will last for several weeks, and participants will be closely monitored for any changes in their health and any side effects. The main objective is to determine the effectiveness of RBD1016 in reducing the virus levels in the blood of participants with chronic hepatitis D virus infection.
