Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD) is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system, leading to a gradual loss of physical and mental abilities. This study focuses on patients with a specific type of this condition, known as Late Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. The treatment being studied is an enzyme replacement therapy called HGT-1110, which is administered directly into the spinal fluid through a method known as intrathecal injection. The main goal of the study is to gather information on the long-term safety of this treatment in patients who have already participated in a previous study.
The study involves the use of a special device called SOPH-A-PORT Mini S, which allows for repeated access to the spinal fluid space for delivering the investigational drug. The treatment, HGT-1110, contains an active substance known as cebsulfase alfa, which is designed to replace the missing or malfunctioning enzyme in patients with MLD. The study will monitor the safety of the treatment by checking for any side effects and changes in laboratory tests, vital signs, and physical examinations. Additionally, the presence of antibodies against HGT-1110 in the spinal fluid and blood will be assessed.
Participants in this study will continue to receive the treatment over an extended period, and their motor function and adaptive behavior will be evaluated to understand the treatment's impact. The study aims to provide valuable insights into the long-term effects of HGT-1110 on patients with Late Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. The information gathered will help determine the safety and potential benefits of this enzyme replacement therapy for individuals affected by this challenging condition.
