Pheochromocytoma is a type of tumor that forms in the adrenal glands, which are located above the kidneys. These tumors can cause the body to produce too many hormones, leading to symptoms like high blood pressure, headaches, and sweating. The study focuses on using a special imaging technique called PET-CT to better detect these tumors. The imaging uses a substance called 1-(3-(fluoro-18F)benzyl)guanidine or [18F]mFBG, which is injected into the body to help highlight the tumors during the scan.
The main goal of the study is to see how well the [18F]mFBG PET-CT scan can find pheochromocytoma tumors compared to the usual CT scan. Participants in the study will undergo the [18F]mFBG PET-CT scan, and the results will be compared to their previous CT scans. This will help determine if the new method is more effective in identifying the tumors. The study will also look at the safety of using [18F]mFBG and how it affects the body.
During the study, participants will receive an injection of [18F]mFBG and then have a PET-CT scan. The scan will take place at specific times to see how well the substance works in showing the tumors. The study will also check for any side effects from the injection and compare the scan results with tissue samples from the tumors. This research aims to improve the way pheochromocytoma is diagnosed and treated in the future.
